I know this has been debated since Hector was pup, but look at this picture and give me your opinion, satin nickel or stainless? It has a smooth finish with an even grain (stainless) not the dull rough texture E-nickel look. The serial number and front sight say e nickel, but it does not look like that.

Beats me, but for a couple of years after buying my Python I assumed it was stainless. But it's e-nickel. The finish isn't really rough or frosty. It just looks laike stainless to me. But you're right. This has been discussed a lot.

What year does the serial indicate? If it is before 1982 it is not stainless. If it is on the cusp or after 1982 and does not have an S in the ejector shroud, under the ejector star and under the stocks, it is not stainless unless it was just before they marked them. Perhaps it is even brushed hard chrome if it does not have the nickel tint. Yes, it has been discussed, but if you can't sleep, get a letter. :)

Python e-nickel was smoother and shinier then standard e-nickel/Coltguard. Colt called it "Royal Coltguard".

Again, if there's no "S" stamps on the barrel, rear of the cylinder and left lower side of the frame, it's not stainless.
