Python Silhouette

Hi,

I need some advice. I have located a Python Silhouette that the guy has priced at $1400, but he will sell it to me for $1175. It has the factory 2x Leupold scope, case, bullet box, papers, tools, etc and appears to be unfired, although he's not sure, it could have a few rounds through it. It appears to me to be mint except for a very fine dragline on the cylinder. Does anyone have any idea what these are worth or how much demand there is for them, you don't see a lot of them on GA or GB. I thought if the price is right I might buy it to keep my other Python company.

Andy,

I asked a question regarding a Colt model Python Silhouette and was referred to your post as I was asking pretty much the same questions you did. The referrer suggested you might have purcahsed the pistol. So, did you? And if so, have you been able to figure much more information about production date and numbers? I have the opportunity to buy one in the box with all the goodies and it is almost brand new. The price is very similar to what you paid. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
Hi,

I did end up buying the gun. It ended up being unfired NIB with all papers, ammo box, tool kit, rod, etc. The Silhouettes were made in 1983. They are basically the same as the Python Hunter which was made in 1981 only the Silhouettes are roll marked Python Silhouette on the barrel. I don't know how many were made but I would guess a few hundred. They also made a Whitetailer but if I recall correctly it was on either a Trooper Mark III or V action and was not a Python. The Silhouettes seem to be less common than the Hunters and the ones that I have seen sell have went for more than the Hunters I have seen. Sorry, I don't have any more info than that.
Hey Cal, you got a picture of that gun? Ya'll have my intrests up now.....
RgrLee,

Here you go. This is my first time posting pix so I'm not sure how good these will turn out.

very purdy!

I think I saw one of those on GB once and the saler said the foam may have done damage to the blueing......is this possible? The finish had specs all over it......

Yours looks like a Victoria Secrets model..... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't know if the foam could hurt the blueing but I do know that this one had been laying in the foam for 20 years when I bought it and it wasn't hurt. I would think that Colt would have had the foresight not to have lined the cases with a foam that would possibly affect the blueing since they would surely have known the guns would be stored in the cases by most folks. It could just be oil that picked up the pattern of the foam that needs to be wiped off that he was referring to.
Andy,

I ended up purchasing the one I was referencing above for $1050. Eventhough it has been fired, it is in really great shape and I feel it was well worth the price. By the way, do you shoot it or is it a safe queen? Thanks for the response and the photos!
I just realized, the tool and cleaning kit is missing from mine. Can you photograph just that so I can see what I am missing? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

When I get home tonight I will post a closeup photo of the tool kit for you.

Congrats on your purchase. That's a good buy at that price.
