Can somebody tell me..are the frames the same on the first series.. Bull’s-eye Match target, and the next one.. the match target? I have a set of grips for a Match Target and I don’t know what gun I need? I found a picture of my grips in Wilsons book and they were on the Bullseye... but they are sooooo pricy.

I don't understand your question, but I'll post some information and see if that helps.

Grips that will fit any first series Woodsman WILL FIT all first series Woodsmans. Sport, Target, or Match Target. The grip area of the frame is the same.

Grips that will fit any first series Woodsman WILL NOT FIT any 2nd or 3rd series Woodsman. The converse is also true.

Bullseye model is just a nickname for the 1st series Match Target. They usually came with the elongated, wrap around, one piece walnut grips, commonly called elephant ear grips because that is what they resemble. If those are the grips you have, then you are in luck; they are very pricey. Picture shows 1st series Sport, Target, and Match Target.

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago. I came across a sport woodsman fitted with a Match Target Elephant Ear stock and I wound up buying regular stocks for the sport and a Match Target for the EE stock. Funny how things work out sometimes!

A small number of 1st series Sport and Target models were special ordered from Colt with the Match Target elephant ear stocks. If you didn't get a Colt letter with your Sport model you may want to order one.

Bob - would the 1st series Sport and Target Models that were special ordered with the Match Target elephant ear stocks have a tapped hole added for the small screw on the front grip strap? Also, would the serial number be re-located on the bottom on the frame like the MT model? Reason I asked was that I just saw a late Model MT Woodsman with no tapped hole for the EE stocks (those came with the later elongated Plastic stock) and also had the serial number on the from strap. Unfortunately, it had been horribly re-blued, but with nice Sanderson Thumbrest Stocks. Jackson

Thanks, Bob, but the front of the frame had no hole for the front grip screw, so I don't think it could have come from the factory with that grip.

The special order Sport and Target Models with MT stocks that I have seen did have the screw hole on the front for rotational stability. They did not have the serial number relocated to the butt, so in fact the SN was not visible with the wraparound stocks installed.

The earlier military MTs with the plastic stocks retained the screw hole in front and the SN on the butt. Later the screw hole was eliminated and the SN was moved to the front strap. I do not know if both changes were made at the same time.
