You said to look at it close, not trying to offend.
That would have been a nice looking Navy if left alone. the way the recoil shield's have been ground away so much that after the 1st shot I think the remaining 5 cap's [primer's] would fall to the ground from the recoil. I think someone was just trying to make a better Colt and things went wrong.
Now if you can prove it was done by Colt, which I doubt, [to many things wrong] then it would be a rare Navy 51.

Not being critical so please don't take offense. Maybe its just me, but both sides of the recoil shield behind the cylinder looks strange?
... yeah, and it would have made this Navy an impossible candidate for a cartridge conversion.

There's a groove under the cylinder in the frame against the breech face, never seen that
Any guesses as to why that slot was cut???? For the life of me I can't think of any possible reason to do something like that, not even for a cartridge conversion.
