I was watching this item and thought I would bring it to the forum. Interesting package to say the least with a wooden factory case.

Sale price = $4861

My knowledge of the boxes is extremely limited, but isn't the serpent C Colt logo from the 1960's time period?
What about a picture of a period box logo? The letter doesn't mention the box either.

Johnny,

You are correct -- the presentation box is an original Colt product and is seldom encountered. Here's an early one:

Colt Pistols and Revolvers for Firearms Collectors - .22-.45 Conversion Unit - Collector's Information

The Colt logo on the lid is correct. It's also present on the deluxe casing fitted for the pistol and conversion unit:

Colt Pistols and Revolvers for Firearms Collectors - Government Model .45 ACP

I used to own that CU. It actually shipped with a National Match pistol that I assume has been sold separately.

I have the identical walnut box. But no Colt logo on the lid or anywhere. It has a Pre-WWII King Super Target National Match and Ace Conversion unit in it. Is there any way to positively I.D. the box? I have a letter coming but these "factory" cases seem not to be listed on anyone's letter.

Great set. Not sure if the case is identical. Looks similar, but the lock is a different configuration than on my case.

I've never seen a prewar letter that references any of the deluxe cases. In my experience, a reference to a special order number is about as close as you can get.

I'm sure it makes perfect business sense to sell the CU separately,-- But what a shame to break up that package if they were shipped together.

Wait, is this the same type of Service Model Ace conversion that typically sells for $500-700 on ebay? 221277247227, 271277495147, etc?

So, the box is worth $4,000??
Yes, same general type but this exams is pre-war and U numbered. These early units command a premium. The box also adds value.
