I picked up a 9mm Combat Commander that was probably a car gun. The slide has rust spots but is otherwise not a bad shooter. Was thinking of having it refinished in something like a Duracoat process. Any opinions or suggestions?
Depends on what you are going to use it for. Just for a shooter or general knockabout I suppose Duracoat would be fine. If it were mine and not badly pitted but just a little rust I would probably have it refinished in electroless nickel which was a Colt option or for extreme durability, hard chrome. Your choice of course. Those are fine weapons and while not rare are worth taking good care of. I have a Combat Commander in electroless nickel that I bought new in 1984. I've used it quite a bit and the finish has held up well through the years. It looks almost as good as the day I got it.
