I have a third generation cylinder which has excessive end play. It has the base pin spacer rather than the bushing, thus it seems that using the spacers normally used to solve this problem not an option. I am thinking that the solution may be to have the cylinder bored to 0.350 ID and install a base pin bushing. Comments on this approach really appreciated.

You can use a fitted washer to correct end shake. The washer fits over the base pin and between the bushing and the frame.
This is a cheap, easy fix, but you have to be careful not to lose the washer when removing the cylinder.

The best option would be to bore the cylinder and install a long bushing and fit the bushing to the frame.
If you go this route, make sure you get someone who actually knows what he's doing.
I'd recommend a single action specialists who does this, not a local gunsmith or a machine shop.
