I recently bought some Colt parts and found this slide which I believe to be an A J Savage slide. Doesn't appear to be refinished. I've read both Clawson's and Poyer's accounts but wonder how rare these actually are. There isn't much to be found with a cursory internet search.
Thanks in advance for the help.

So far nothing has come to light to prove where they came from. From the S in the ordnance bomb it is speculated that they came from the A.J. Savage Munitions Co. after the contract was cancelled following the end of WWI, but one of the requirements for the manufacture of the Model 1911 was that it be marked with the manufacturers name and address which the slide doesn't have.

The original finish was a heat blue, and subsequent rebuilds had a phosphate finish. That one appears to have had a phosphate finish removed and reblued.
