Dropped by my gunsmith's shop this morning, just to pass the time. Keith was out, but the clerk wanted to show me the latest acquisition. And he asked me about the value, saying I had forgotten more than he'd ever know! Doesn't that butter you up?

Anyway, he produced a Colt Officers Model Target, a third issue I guessed. The gun was .38 Special and pretty typical except nickel plated. The gun showed considerable wear, with the nickel flacking off around the circumference of the cylinder and the cylinder face. Also a few other spots. The rollmarks and rampant colt were slightly dimmed, the checkering on the stocks well worn. I told him I would ut the price at $600 ~ $800. He told me of someone pricing it at $1300, but I still believe my original estimate, would like to hear any other suggestion. He had bought the gun for $300.

I suggest someone buy my OMT .38 with raggedy box for $2.000.00. I only think it's worth $700.00, but if a refinished condition-challenged example is $1300.00, I'm willing to be wrong.

Honestly, if the action is in good shape, I wouldn't pay more than $325.00 - $420.00.

That still seems a little high.

Best regards,
I would bet its a refinish anyway.
Maybe $300 for it if the action was tight, but not a lot more.

A worn re-nickel finish does not sound too endearing.
Now did he butter you up with real butter, are just that cheap margarine?

Refinished, flaking nickel, I like your assessment but I'd have told him I think between $500 - $600 was fair. In east Tennessee with a reputable dealer that estimate would translate to YOUR estimated price range in west Tennessee.
$500 tops.
Seems like a 500 dollar Colt to me, as in OTD.
