At Tulsa I observed a Detective Special. The seller explained that it was manufactured in 1918. I said "are you sure it's a 1918?" "yeah, check out the serial number. Why do you question the year?" "Well, Colt didn't build the DS until 1927." We went to the Colt serial number book and he was slowly convienced. He had $900 on the gun. I told him that I hope he bought the gun at a good price because what he has is a Police Positive Special with a Detective Special barrel.

That must have been the thing to do back then. I inherited my wife's grandfather's 1915 Colt Police Positive Special with a Detective Special barrel on it. He was on the force back in the 20's-50's.

The guys here told me what it was.

Of course mine was FREE.
