I have the opportunity to purchase one of the following (each are new in box):

SW 28-2, 4", blue for $400
Trooper Mk III, 6" blue for $425
Trooper (original), 6" nickel for $425

Which would you get, assuming you could only get one (without fear of divorce) and why?

FYI whichever I choose will be babied, but used at the range and not be kept as a safe queen.

I'm thinking the Nickel Trooper would be the best buy, with the other two tied for investment value. Also, I just like the E&I frame actions. I've never had a Mk III, though, which makes me think... AHHHH! Help!

If I were to get a big Smith I would hold out for a M27 (BTW there is a nice nickeled M27 on auction now).
The MkIII is very good, but I would choose the nickeled Trooper.
The Smith boys on the other board will most likely tell you to get the M28.

Majic--I tend to agree with you. I already have a 6" nickel 27-2, but thought it might be nice to pair it with a 28 with a shorter tube.

Tough choice but I vote for the nickel Trooper. I had a chance to get either a 4" or 6" in 98% condition for only $325 a couple of months ago and now I really regretting it.
