Bought this SIG P 220-1 army yesterday. It’s the 1811th made for the Swiss army contract in 1949, so a first year delivery model, a true P49 pistol. 3200 were made and delivered that year.

Wow! Congratulations are in order.
It's hard to believe that these were once issued as service pistols. I have a 1949 commercial and a Danish M/49, both are superb pistols and the slides feel like they ride on roller bearings. I don't know if "slickness" really is a word, but it's the best way to describe how they feel. Every pistol enthusiast has to try a Neuhausen P210 at least once in his lifetime.

Thanks.

They are wonderful pistols indeed and they grow on you. I only had one for 24 years. Then I bought a second one a year ago. And now three more in February alone. Gotta cool down.

And the LGS just bought a private collection. I’ll stay away from him for a while

The Swiss liked to buy quality stuff...and from their own companies as well. After Desert Storm the Kuwaitis purchased Colt M16s and Colt Pythons for their military and police forces. I remember reading that they probably bought Mercedes jeeps and carried Perrier water in the canteens.
