I got a box of 50 Hornady 55 grain soft point 223's today.
Then I realized that they may not feed right because of the lead point.
Anyone ever loaded a magazine with these? If so,have you had any problems with them feeing ok?
I will try them this weekend so Ill find out but I wonder if anyone here has tried them>

I also picked up some PMC's labeled 62 grain green tipped LAP's What are LAP's? they were 9$ for a box of 20 so I thought Id try em also.

Be very careful where you shoot the PMC green tipped ammo. LAP stands for "light armor piercing" and a lot of places might not appreciate you using it. I really like the PMC ammo so I haven't found the need to try anything else. I use the 55gr in .223 or 5.56 (what ever is available at the time).

When I got my new Colt M4 earlier this year, I still had about 100 rounds of some reloads left from years ago.
These were loaded with 55 grain exposed lead tip bullets.

My buddy and I bought 1000 each from a member of our old gun club. Back in the late 60's a bullet company went out of business and several club members bought A LOT of these cheap.
These look like FMJ bullets only with a very small lead tip exposed. We were told these were target bullets, but never bothered to confirm it.

In any case, my M4 shot the entire 100 rounds with no problems.
This is one of those cases where you just have to test fire the ammo enough to determine if your specific rifle will handle them.

I have loaded and shot Remington 55gr.Core Lokt's with excellent accuracy and zero problems in my RRA and D.D. AR's with no function limitations. Loaded 6,000 rounds with this bullet and have all the confidence I need that they will perform.

Thanks all for your comments.
I will try the soft point Hornadys hopefully in the next week.
I really like the way the Colt (model 6920) shoots with the stock peep sights. Although the trigger pull sucks with several layers of creep,if I squeeze all the creep out on each shot so I can get the nice clean break at the end, I can shoot excellent groups with it.
I can hit half gallon milk cartons full of water offhand every shot at about 80 yards. It will be fun to shoot them with expanding soft point bullets. They should really blow up pretty good when hit. The FMJ bullets just knock over the cartons with no drama.

I noticed that prices have started coming down a little. I picked boxes of American Eagle 55 grain fmj shells for 9$ for a box of 20. I bought the green tipped PMC's for $8.50 /box.
I will stack several pieces of 2x6 together and check their penetration against standard FMJ bullets and see what difference there is.

Several owners of Colt M4's have told me that simply using the rifle breaks the trigger in and it improves quite a bit.

Personally, I had a Rock River Arms two-stage trigger my buddy gave me and I installed it in my M4.
MUCH improved, and unlike a lot of replacement triggers, the RRA is fairly simple and has no adjustments to get out of order.

A simple trick for shooting that I was taught is to not release the trigger after firing. Then I would ease it forward until I either felt or heard a click. It really helped my accuracy because of the shorter pull.

While I normally shoot steel targets I also thought about loading up some used soda or water bottles with a Bromo-Seltzer cocktail.
