I just looked at a Stainless version of the Detective Special . It is not the sv-II version. and it is not Nickle . It is marked Like all of the previous DS's except the serial # on the frame is pencil engraved not rolled marked and has the the old type rounded latch release and factory blue box.. It has a bobbed hammer and is dao from the factory [email protected] 390.00 I couldnt resist putting it on layaway . I looked very closley and I dont think the gun has been fired except by the factory . Can any one tell me about this gun? thanks.

In addition to bright nickel, Colt offered a satin Electroless nickel finish.
This looks like stainless, but when compared to real stainless, you'll note that the Electroless nickel has a slight "yellow" tint.

Colt also offered a finish known as "Coltguard". I haven't been able to find out just what this was, Electroless satin nickel under another name, or a hard chrome plating.

In any event, Colt made NO real stainless steel old model DS's.

Since this one is in a blue box, it's a late production model.

A satin Electroless nickel DS, in a factory hammerless model, will have some collector's interest, sooner, rather than later due to the low production.

Thanks guys! I just found the gun in the 24th blue book It seams its a Bobbed Detective special in a hard chromed finish. (identical to ss) made in 1994 to 95. It has a special night front site . A lucky find for sure. I will post a pic as soon as I take it off layaway .
