As I see it, the two problems here are Privacy Concerns with respect to mental illness and Political Correctness, which I define as a substitute for those who lack common sense. Guns were here before this country was. And this country isn't the one I grew up in. When I was growing up, if you didn't get a .22 for your 12th birthday or the nearest Christmas, then you must have done something pretty bad because that's when all you friends got theirs.

Now, all the talking heads are complaining about lousy background checks on this Navy Yard lunatic. They should have been listening to LaPierre, when he was complaining to the Senate subcommittee about the broken background check system after Sandy Hook. Fix what's broken before you expand it? That only sounds reasonable to those with common sense. I see few of those among the "Elite." I also heard a psychiatrist say (can't remember if on C-SPAN or another cable network) that if he had to turn over his mental health records to the government, he would start leaving things out of his patients' files! Probably afraid he'd get sued under HIPAA.

I don't get Savage on local stations, but I heard the comment about that occurring under Clinton on one of the cable networks--I was bouncing around so much, I don't remember which one.

A lady worth listening to is that doctor in charge of treating those three wounded. On MSNBC, where I go to get the anti-gun take on things, but maybe other networks as well, by now. I didn't hear her mention guns--only that this country has changed.
