Picked this little gem up tonight, had to try to save it. These are fairly rare pistols and this is one of the worst abused models I have ever seen. Mechanically it is great, plate side is great, but I do not think it has been cleaned in years. Much of the finish on the backstrap and latch side of the frame is gone. Does anyone know what finish S&W used on this thing? Would it be worth sending it back to them for a refinish? It almost looks like a paint of sorts.

I like it!
18 oz 44 special there is not much not to like about them. This one just needs help with it's appearance lol

I am sure S & W could re-do the finish...it is not that old, so...see what they say.

Interesting little .44!
S&W refinish work is excellent and much faster than Fords, if Ford is even accepting new work.
Thanks guys, I will contact them tomorrow. The last one of these in the performace cener box (this one has it and all the papers) went for 1200, but it didn't look like it was drug behind the acorn bus either
I bet that is a handful when you touch it off!!!
it relly isnt a bad as you would think. I have a prelock version I carry and put about a box a month through it.

I don't know the cost, but that's the same finish as on all the (silver) scandium revolvers, and they can refinish that. If you're going to send it to S&W, have them do a Master Trigger Job on it too - you'll love the trigger pull. I have a 625-10 that had one, and most folks that try it think it's about 6 pounds - it's actually 12.

They can do the finish in black if that interests you.

Thank you haggis, I appreciate the info. DO you know how long their turnaround is in the current climate?
Rob,

I haven't had any work done by them recently, but if you give the Custom Shop a call, they will give you cost and delivery time.

Buck
Thanks. I tried but apparently they are closed until the 9th
