I spoke to a gentleman the other day that used to own a Trooper MK III with a vented rib. Today he regrets selling the revolver as it appeared to be a one of a kind. He says it looked to be factory but who knows for sure. He never had it lettered. Has anyone heard of this particular gun?

I'll question the series when I talk to him. When we last spoke he was certain it was a III.

It is either a Mark V or a Mark III with a Mark V barrel. There was a thread in the past where such a Mark III with a vent rib was discussed. If I recall correctly, the conclusion was that it was a "cleanup" where a Mark III frame was factory-fitted with a Mark V barrel.

I don't recall seeing the thread. A MK V barrel wouldn't be stamped MKIII. Or would it?

This gun was offered on GunsAmerica a while back by a gentleman from whom I had purchased another gun. As I recall, it appeared to have been sold, but then was offered again. Perhaps the deal fell through. At this point I don't know the status. The gentleman is very reputable, but I don't know that he had a letter or other provenance.

Hello- New to the Forum. I have one of these Trooper MK III's in "Coltguard" 4" vented rib. I bought it, I think in the late 80's, unfired and in a box from a dealer. Thought it was unusual to have a ventilated rib on a MK III, but didn't really give it much thought back then. My assumption was they were using MK V barrels on the last Mk III frames. Does anyone have any other info about these guns?

I recently purchased a Trooper MK III serial Y133XX which I was told was manufactured in 1980 as well. I think 1980 was the last full year of production for this model. I checked it after reading this and it does NOT have the vented rib...Not sure how close mine is to the end of production run....
