As you guys know the 1860 serial numbers end at 200,500.

The 1860 I’ve been looking at is advertised as a 2nd gen which I assume it is but everywhere I’ve read those serial numbers come with either a lettered prefix or suffix.

Being that this serial number is only 2000 later than where they stopped making them would their be any chance it is perhaps a 1st gen?

just curious if anyone else as seen an 1860 with a serial number after 200,500 and no letters at all.

i can post photos but it has the matching serial numbers in the 3 spots that line up and then the last four numbers (2672) on the butt. I guess my final question is what year would this gun be with serial number mentioned above?

Welcome to the forum. I own a Colt 2nd generation black powder series 1860 Army. The advertising circular says they continued the serial number series on from the original guns. I recall there may have been a gap. The percussion guns did not get an "SA" suffix."
You might get more response if this thread was moved to the "Colt Percussion Revolvers" forum. As I recall the Model 1860 in the 2nd generation series was introduced in 1978 and discontinued in 1982. Mike Venturino's "Shooting Colt Single Actions" book has more information. He is on this forum as MLV.

The standard 2nd Generation Army did not have a letter prefix or suffix. Some of the limited editions did have a letter in the serial number, such as the stainless steel Army had the letter S.

The letters as a prefix or suffix are in regards to the second generation SAA. The second generation 1860s did not have prefix or suffix letters unless as johngrass states they were limited edition variations.

To me it's a 2nd gen. Model 1860 Army from the serie F-1200.
Serial numbers goes from 201.000 to 212.835 (without prefix or suffix) and yours is right in the range.
