A friend showed me his Dad's issue 1911 that he carried as a Navy fighter pilot in WWII and throughout his Navy career. It was manufactured by US Signal. We were wondering what records might exist to show such things as date of manufacture, where shipped, etc?

US&S made 55000 pistols, 30000 made late 42-early 43, 25000 made later in 43. Serials 1041405-1071404 in first contract, through 1096404 in extension. They were considered very high quality, better than RR and Ithaca, probably right on par with Colt. <- This information is from ColtAutos.com. I believe a lot of them went to the Navy.

The first US&S pistols were delivered in January of 1943, with slightly less than 300 pistols being delivered in January and February. Final production was delivered in October of 1943.
