I just finished reading Empire of the Summer Moon, there is an excellent account of the use of the revolver and changing Texas Ranger tactics to great advantage. A fascinating read, I recommend it

They are a part of DPS and all Rangers come from the cream of the crop of the ranks of DPS. I worked with Rangers when assigned in Texas and found them to be fine folks and superb law enforcement officers.
