Value of 8 inch Ananconda in CA Time Sensitive

1871 Views 16 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  sturmgewehr
Hello all I am new to the forum. I have the opportunity to purchase an 8 inch anaconda manufactured in 1991. The gun is in excellent condition and comes with all original paperwork and matching cardboard sleeve. I am located in wonderful California and don't have access to Gunbroker auctions because of the handgun roster. Any help would be greatly appreciated they are asking $2600 which seems in line with prices I've seen online.

Personally, I believe $2,600 is too much even in 100% condition.
I think you should be able to find a less expensive one if your patient.
I might be wrong and if I am I will be selling my anacondas.

You think even being located in CA? An 8 inch just sold for $3000 a month ago on a local site
I would pay $2k max here in Texas

I don't know about CA. I live in MO; a gun friendly state.

Is CA more expensive because of this? If so, I feel bad for gun enthusiast who live there.
Yeah the only way to get an off roster handgun like an anaconda is through private party transfer and people jack prices up. The cheapest anaconda ive seen in ca recently was $2300 with most between $2500-$3000. $2000 seems a little cheap. Here is an in state seller and he has some listed as high as $3600.

Even though $2600 is a lot to pay, if it is in really nice shape that's what its worth in California. The last one I saw at a LGS here in SoCal was $3000, and that gun was of average condition.

At the risk of giving those outside CA a headache, a brief explanation -

CA has a "roster" of approved handguns for entry into CA via the usual FFL route. All those used, older handguns aren't on the roster so they can't come in. We're pretty much restricted to what's already here - if the "off roster" handgun is already in state it's OK to sell to another CA resident. Definitely a seller's market. A Colt or Smith that costs about $600.00 out of state runs that +$300.00 in CA, all day long.

There are exemptions. Curio & Relic handguns are roster exempt. And SA revolvers are exempt from the roster too. Remove the DA sear from the Anaconda and it's roster exempt as a SA revolver. I got mine in from OR last year as a "single action" exemption. ANIB with the cardboard sleeve, hanging tags, Colt intro letter, etc. Paid $1,800.00.

If you can find a seller on GB who will ship to CA and a CA FFL who will accept it you'll be able to get one into CA. Some CA FFLs require the DA sear be removed by the seller first, others will do it themselves upon arrival or allow you to do it prior to pick up. Some FFLs won't handle it at all. Which fine, their business and their rules.

The CalGuns website has all sorts of specific info on the exemption.

The Anaconda listed by LSB isn't exactly the average Colt. Whether he's pricing it for "in CA" or with an eye outside the state, hard to tell. But I see most Anacondas starting around $1,800.00 to $2,500.00 and those don't seem to be generating many bids - or any bids. Anacondas bidding around $1,600.00 seem to be generating interest.

I’ve known LSB for years. The last Anaconda I could find sold in December by them. It’s an 8”. I don’t know if 5he
winning bid was a CA person but you can see the price. Yesterday’s LSB Auctions had a Colt Nickel Viper that
sold for $4700! Yes,we living here in CA pay a premium for everything. Pete

The CA laws churn my stomach. It’s a flat out infringement. Many fine guns are discontinued, it’s the nature of the gun business. Anyway, you need to decide if a 8” anaconda is for you. It’s a big gun and muzzle heavy. The 6” has IMHO better balance. I have both an 8” python with full underlug and a MKV trooper 8” with little underlug. I like the lighter trooper MKV better.

Thank you all for the help you guys are a lifesaver and making me feel much better about the prices im seeing! I like that idea but if I go non PPT I will have to factor in sales tax as well as shipping on gunbroker and I would need to find a gun for about $2400. My other concern is there seems to be variation of fit and finish and I want to handle the gun first if possible to check lockup and timing.

If you're in northern CA you may want to check out Krausewerks in San Mateo. Small store but he gets all sorts of odds & ends in to include fairly good sized collections.

I talked with that seller awhile back. He seems reputable and he was selling a BSTS Python for about $4500. I think
he got it. It was all complete with box etc. Pete
