Value of a 1956 Python?

3147 Views 26 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  3549bobby
Hello, I'm looking at a 1956 Python, #9xx! Does not have original stocks, some kind of target grip with big thumb rest on it now, real bummer.
The gun is in VG condition, very minor holster wear at the end of the barrel, and a couple of very faint scratches.
Bore and action is superb. No box or paperwork.

I know values are going through the roof, what's it worth?

Worth keeping!!
Thanks but, I don't own it, yet!
Check Gun Broker...a few have sold recently.......

though all have had the correct stocks.....they ranged from $3750 for a beautiful redone gun to 12.5K for a 1xx gun in the box with the test target....

GOOD LUCK....RR
I hope my son is surprised when unwraps it for Christmas. Time for him to get started

Yep I thought about bidding till I saw it was you and didn't want a bidding war. Was gonna go as high as 4 and figured you were gonna get it so why bid it up. Actually thought it would go a little higher than it did.

Not no more!!!! I'm out for a bit(maybe)

I was surprised myself. It's the finish I'm sure. I plan on someday down the rd getting colt to refinish it for him. At least I'm hoping 403 has got a long time home. Probably the cheapest I'd ever find one

So you think this one is worth that much?
Come on Prostrok you told me you were going to Bail and I put on my skirt and pom poms and was your biggest cheerleader and now you're gonna say you are surprised what it sold for! Ha! Lol

To me yes as a long term investment and probably the best chance I'd ever have of owning such an early gun

My bad, I was referring to the one I posted, if you misunderstood
Sorry but I'm going to be the Nay-Sayer. I don't think it is worth $4k without the original box or Grips. I would estimate it sells for around $2500-$3000 on Gunbroker in it's current state. Track down a set of grips for $500-$600 and it's a $3500 piece. IMO
Ok, so since this thread has started, I have to ask what you guys think. What would #3xx with proper grips and similar condition to above mentioned value at? I say $4k+. What say you?

J
The grips you have on the gun are no slouch either. They are a very nice pair of sanderson stocks.
