Value of past purchases in today\'s dollars

Have you ever wondered what that $79.95 revolver purchased in 1971 would cost in today's dollars? At www.startribune.com/143 is a calculator, adjusted for inflation and based on the Consumer Price Index, that makes these types of estimates. After plugging in values for some past purchases, today's high prices for used firearms doesn't seem quite as shocking.

In 2005, $382 in the above example.
