A colt official police nickle plated with no serial number on the butt but the frame and the cyl. crane has serial 565965 indicating an early 30's. Looks almost unfired with a checkered trigger and serations along the topstrap. I picked it up years ago at a Va. gun show from a dealer. It had ill fitted grips at the time indicating to me that the original grips may have been stripped off the piece. I have some other early colts and I would like to discuss colt revolvers. The only Colt's to have factory serial numbers on the butt are military issue guns, mostly 1917/New Service revolvers.

All civilian Colt's have the serial on the frame, crane, and inside the side plate.

The 1930's was the top of the mountain for Colt quality.

Original Colt Official Police grips cna be found at Gun Parts Corporation, and on Ebay.

Sounds like a nice old Colt. One with a nickel finish, in that condition from the early 30's would bring a premium price.
