I have two SAAs with the VP Stamp on the rear of the trigger bow opposed to the traditional front. These two are from 1905 and 1906. Anyone else have one marked this way or have seen others marked this way?

My 1907 is marked on the left front.

Maybe it was a new guy - maybe it was done just to screw with collectors a hundred-plus years in the future.

When it comes to 'precise' markings of inspector/assembler stamps, about the only thing 'known' is that they were applied by human beings - and you 'know' how they can be...

Human error, Monday hangover, Friday afternoon and a year apart. Maybe a left handed assembler.

Around 1905 is when Colt first started stamping the VP. Yours may be so early that it's before the location was standardized on the front TG flat. I haven't seen them vary since then.

In many cases, smokeless frames that were not stamped originally were stamped retroactively with the VP if and when they were sent back to Colt for rework or refinish.
