I wouldn't mind picking up a King Cobra at some point to make it three but I'm pleased with these guns. I just picked up the Python on Saturday and took it to the range on Sunday and put about 150 rounds through it.

Question for the group, the gun store I bought the Python from said not to shoot a lot of 357 magnum through it and that after about 400 rounds of full power magnum loads it would start to go out of time. Is this true? My son and I both like shooting it, we put 24 rounds of 357 magnum through it and the rest was 38 special. It is pretty tame with both rounds.

Yeah, I'm used to Smith & Wesson revolvers, I own a number of them and never hesitate to put full power loads through them, so it was kind of surprising to hear that quite frankly. I haven't shot the Anaconda yet but my son loves shooting my 44 magnum revolvers so it is only a matter of time. 😁

The Anaconda was owned by the father of a friend of mine. He never shot it so after he passed away last summer his sons sold me two of his guns. A 4" S&W model 29-2 and the Anaconda, I paid $1500 each. I think I did okay on the Anaconda but basically I stole the Smith. I believe the Anaconda is from the mid 1990s. The S&W is from the 1970s, pinned and recessed. Both are in near mint condition. I have shot the M29 now but not the Anaconda.

This is the M29. Beautiful gun but punishing to shoot. I might have to shoot only 44 special through this one.

Nope! that guy is wrong. It will go out of time at 421 rounds exactly. Don't shoot it other than with the lightest 38 specials you can find.

Gun Shop is plain wrong.
New metallurgy, stronger frame and different action.
Even the old one isn't going to go out of time after 400 rounds. The internet has created a new wave of silly wives tales.

I have V-springs that are over 100 years old that have been shot A TON that are in perfect time.

Yeah, I didn't see anything in the owner's manual advising against shooting 357 magnum rounds. I figured I would ask here though just to see if anyone else had heard this... it seemed like a ridiculous claim to me at the time.

When this new 2020 version of the Python was introduced Colt reps specifically said that due to advanced metallurgy and a much stronger frame, full power .357 rounds could be shot full time through it without any negative effects.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Funny, The "counter worker" that processed my new Python last year (a 19 year old) suggested to me there was no difference between a .38 special and a .357 except a small difference in length???? I guess I don't get the humor!

I have the new Anaconda. Love it, recoil is very manageable. The trigger could use some work, smooth but heavy. Looking to buy an Python to go with the Anaconda, 1911's and 6940. Speaking S&W, I have a 625 Model of 1989 (45 ACP revolver) that is an absolute dream to shot. Somebody got the trigger to the same level as the Python.
