I just had a buyer on GB "stiff me" on a sale. He is refusing to send payment/FFL. Of course it had to be on the most valuable gun I've ever sold.

2.5" Bright Stainless Steel Colt Python Orig Box : Revolvers at GunBroker.com

Here is what he wrote me:

"Russ Talked to the people at my gun range which I have been a member since the early 90's. They will not deal with any FFL operated out of a residence. And they only FAX FFLs to the dealer. With the Gun laws in New Jersey the way they are we dont want do anything illeagl. He recommends that I dont buy this item. he also dosent understand why it cant be shipped with full insurance. I have purchased a lot of guns through Gun Broker and never had this much difficulty. Therefor I will not proceed with this transaction. Ron"

1) I've done over 50 transaction with my current FFL dealer from his home. He does not have a fax number. I ask that all buyers either email a copy to my dealer of else include a hard copy along with the payment. I've never had anyone claim it had to be faxed directly to the FFL. I offered to have the FFL faxed to me at work and then take it to my dealer but he refused.

2) As I explained clearly in the GB auction, the USPS will only insure a package up to $5000. I stated that any other means of shipment or extra insurance would be the responsibility of the buyer.

3) The only "dificulty" was caused by this buyer.

Now I have to apply for a refund of my listing and sales fees. Thanks for letting me vent...

Sounds more like someone's wife laid the smackdown. If it makes you feel any better I bought a 500 gun for 900 a couple weeks ago. None of us are immune to hassles and deadbeat/dishonest folk, it is all part of the game. I hope it goes for 8k next round for your hassles.

He's feeding you excuses not solutions and therefore I'd simply call it a dead deal, relist and move on. His loss and someone else's gain. Be thankful that IF transaction went through and THEN he wanted to return the revolver and insist on you reimbursing past and present shipping and insurance then leaving negative feedback. Take this as a sign that it wasn't meant to me and look forward. Best of luck bro.

Well, Blade's from Jersey. So, we know they're not all bad there. Turns out all 46 states and the remaining republicks of communism, all have some bid-happy individuals that must check their finances AFTER they win an auction. Btw, I checked with my wife too. she said if capt Ron's wife in Jersey said no, then I surely can't afford it.... I'm not even a captain.. And drop it if I want to stay first mate. Wonder if GB will charge him the fee after they reimburse you since he refused the deal.

I did just realize that I forgot to say sorry to hear that, Russ. And hats off to you dealers that we have with us that deal with this and the many other customer hassles on a regular basis. I've had many GB purchases, but only like one GB sell that took two attempts as well. A dead beat buyer right out of the gate and then the re-list buyer .. I really thought it would take a lawyer to complete the transaction with the guy to get a $300- yes... $300 savage rifle sold. House loan closings are less worry than it was. I thought I was going to have to send him the rifle stock first before he'd send a money order

It happens I guess. Sorry to hear about your bad GB experience as well. Yeah, when you find a good dealer you tend to stick with them. Sometimes I wish I had my own FFL but after checking with the ATF recently, they told me that my "hobby" really didn't lend itself to getting my own license.

I don't mind tire kickers. I don't mind first time buyers with lots of questions. I don't even mind indecisive grown men who have to ask their wives every move to make. But when a mans wins an auction fair and square and fails to pay, now that gets under my skin.

I hate this happened to you and it sounds like buyer's remorse to me. However I would say from your statements, you have done more sells on GB than me, and I have ran into the FFL's wanting to fax directly to the shipping FFL MANY times. Only way they were willing to do the transaction. Actually it seems like in the past year or so I have run into this more times than not, maybe paranoia to do with the post-Newtown era???. If this is your first NPB out of 50, then you are lucky, I've had Two I believe, but luckily all mine anywhere near your range or more always went through. I was stressed for the money those times (out of work, no income) and couldn't have imagined not receiving it at that time. I'm glad to see you have a way out if you are need it. I might jinx myself, but I don't think I've ever had a NR bidder not pay me, it was always from someone I thought for sure would according to their feedback. I think keystones offer is a good one, because you will get paid FOR SURE and fast, but unfortunately I believe GB will not refund your fees unless you re-list it. At least they wouldn't for me. I had an item with a NPB and even had to wait like 2 months after filing the NPB report to satisfy them I wasn't getting paid. I had decided to just trade the gun in at a gun shop at a loss (after I got everything resolved on GB of Course) on something I wanted, and they would not refund my seller fees. They said I had to re-list it to get my fees back. They told me it has basically company policy. Of course I guess maybe you could re-list it for a gazillion dollars and if it doesn't sell, get your credit back then sell it to Marc :).

We sell a good amount of new/used guns on Auction Arms . While it's not common it does happen . Some excuses I recall . "Sorry , my buddies and I were drinking Saturday night and got carried away" , "Sorry , my 16 yr old son was playing on the computer" , sometimes they claim a medical condition "just came on" , and so on .

Sorry it happened to you .

I don't know about people from NJ. I bought a Antique rifle from a man there and would only ship to a FFL. To cap it all off, I opened the package and there was a FLASHLIGHT instead of a Rifle. I called him and he said "Sorry I was shipping a Rifle and a Flashlight". HE could not tell the difference between a rifle and a Flashlight ? He did send me the rifle, but I now am lerry of any seller from NJ. I think that state is full of idiots more than most states.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more clear, but I was "fuzzy" last night from being up so late :). That's only if you want to get your fees back, which on this gun, if my memory serves me correct, probably is $100-$150. If you don't care about the fees, I wouldn't worry about it. In this case I was speaking of, the guy (he had great feedback too) kept telling GB he had sent payment but it was returned and then mailed it again. He also stated I wouldn't reply to his emails/calls lol, when I was emailing him several times a week and calling him too, but I just heard crickets. Luckily the guy had bid on 2 other guns and didn't pay and then they saw who was telling the truth. Your process should be speeded up tremendously since you have that email for him.
