What is a Python \"I\" Frame?

I am looking at a Python and if so new grips. The grips say they fit a Python I Frame. Are there different frames for Pythons???

Re: What is a Python \"I\" Frame?

No.
After WWII Colt began assigning a letter ID code to their frames.

The post-war medium frame revolvers like the Official Police and Officer's Models were called the "E" frame.

In the mid-1950's a few minor changes were made to the frame and they were renamed the "I" frame.
The Python was always an "I" frame.

Since the differences between the two frames were extremely minor and it takes an expert the tell the difference, they are usually lumped together as the "E & I" frame revolvers.

Any grip listed as fitting a Python will fit any Python.
