I bought a pair of stag grips that I thought would fit my 1937 mfg Police Positive 38 spl. However, they leave almost 1/4" of the backstrap exposed. They fit ok top to bottom and to the frontstrap. What older DA Colt revolver has a frame that these may be for?

They could have been made for an old Colt Pocket Positive or an early Police Positive.
I'm not up on the real old Colt's like the Pocket Positive, so I can't say if the grips were close in size and shape

Colt's grip frame shape/size did change over the years, but I don't think they changed by 1/4".

It's possible somebody just modified an older Colt grip frame for whatever reason, and fitted the grips to it.
It's also possible the grips were for one of the Spanish or South American copies of Colt revolvers.
