Alright, to make a long story short. I've been trying to find recreational property for my family and I to enjoy and possibly build on. I've come across a potential keeper and in order to buy it, I would need to sell a majority of my colt collection for a down payment. A lot of time and energy went into assembling this collection and the thought of selling is difficult, because I know trying to buy these again is next to impossible especially a 3 python set in bright stainless with different barrel lengths and consecutive serial numbers that where a special order from the custom shop that I had lettered " complete set". So would you buy the property or keep the colts?

Prices on both are going up. I think I would buy the land but try to find another way to get the money up! It's hard to replace certain colts. I have thought about selling my unfired nickel viper but I KNOW I couldn't replace it. Good Luck

P.S. Nice Collection

I would keep the python set and sell the rest IF I had to get the property. If there is any other way of getting what you want instead of getting rid of your collection then seek it. I too faced similar decision years back and I chose to sell off 90% of my collection to buy a house which later lost in a divorce. Mind you my collection had been together years before I even met my ex. So I lost out on both ends. Choose wisely. I'm not saying this is your case just stating what occurred to me. I also was unable to put that same collection back again. Someone pass me a towel I'm going to do some heavy crying right now.😭

HOLY MACARONI!! That's quite a nice collection. I guess my question would be what do I plan to do with either decision. Fun and family with a nice piece of real estate to keep for years and future family, or pass down the unbelievable collection to the same family? Would they enjoy the guns as much as you? Would they keep them like you have? I know for me, every time I trade or sell a Colt, there is always a small or big part of me that wishes I hadn't, but it has worked out every time. My vote is keep your favorites and sell the rest. You may be surprised, it might get you closer to your goal than you think. Just my confused opinion.

If it meant spending quality time with my wife, children, family and friends I wouldn't even have to think about it for a second the guns would be gone. They're just Steel and Wood.

You're dealing with 3 very limited items ... family, land, and Colt's (especially the kind of Colt's that you collect). All three are of limited availability.

If possible, get a loan for the land, enjoy the family, and keep the Colt's.

i concur with Keystone, quality time verses some nice iron,i would go with FAMILY.
besides when the dust settles you can began your hunt again.
they don't make Pythons anymore and that goes true for land also..

Recreational property is much much much, did I say much easier to find than that group of Colt's.JMO D*
A local farm went out of business and just sold 3000 acres of land spread around 3 counties in parcels of 250 acres and less. Many of them had the gas and mineral right leased already so it was considered "tillable" but not "buildable" because most financial institutions will not lend on a property without the rights. Average sale price was $12,000 per acre. I can find lots of Pythons on Gunbroker. Good land around here reasonably priced would be like finding Python #1

I'll side with Marc on this one. Quality family time is priceless. It is hard to believe that your heirs will find the same joy as you did assembling them, or find your Colts as priceless as you do.

Everyone who reads this thread will provide an opinion based on their own values in life!

A man's gotta do what man's gotta do!

Only you can make that decision; and when you make that decision you will know
which path to take!

Ask your family - your wife and children. Make it a family decision and then there can be no regrets either way!
You can then all share the joy and the sorrow!
