I was curious as to what year Colt starting putting in the Orange insert front sight. I know it was in the 80's, but where abouts in the 80's ?

Mr Wheel perhaps ?

Thanks, Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

Jeff, I can help narrow it down, but I'm not absolutely positive the specific year. I'll need to look at some of my reference material and some of my guns.

By 1988 Pythons coming in the Maroon 150 year box should have had the front sight insert. To the best of my knowledge no nickel Python had the insert. They stopped nickel in 1985. Early stainless Pythons did not have the insert and they came out in 1985. Subsequent stainless Pythons did have the insert. All Pythons that came in the 90's style blue plastic case should have the insert.

So my best guess is 1986 or 1987. 1988 for sure and possibly a late 1985.

Clear as Mud?

So, in review. There's some very early made stainless guns with-out the insert and there may be some of the very last nickel guns with the insert due to them switching in 1985. Very interesting.
Thanks for your help WS23.
