What's Your Experience With Colt New Agent .45 ACP?

My collection includes mostly service revolvers and pistols I have carried plus my cowboy guns and a few hunters and plinkers. I do not currently own a 1911, a shortcoming that I must at some point remedy. Whatever I buy will be a Colt. The closest thing to a 1911 production gun that I have carried is the Colt New Agent, but I have never seen or handled or fired one in person. If you own one please give me the rundown on them, how do they shoot, handle, function, etc? Thanks for your time

From every thing I have read they are good. Haven't seen one for sale at any of the shows, sites or stores I haunt. I would like to try the gutter snipe style sights. No personal experience and since I have and daily carry a Kimber Ultra I probably won't spend the money. One thing I would recommend if you get one is buy some Wilson mags. in my experience more reliable than either Kimber or Colt factory mags for serious social work. If you get one how about giving us your impression of it.
A little off from your question but...

I have one in 9mm with the gutter snipe sight system. I was a bit skeptical at first but after two trips to the range and I loved it. Now after many trips to the range it's a natural shooter for me. I'm now hip shooting it with (to me who knows how bad I really shoot) fantastic results.

They are pretty good to go right out of the box. I have no difficulties at all with the "trench" sight system. In fact, it's very quick and natural. I've "tuned" 3 so far and I test fire them before and after when I do. In the "before" phase, all three were reasonably accurate, considering the size, sights and stock 5-6lb trigger pulls... and 100% reliable with the, admittedly small quantity of, ASYM match ball I ran through them.

Outside of gunbroker, I have been looking all over for a mustang XSP or new agent with no luck. I know I'm early on the first one.
Mine has been flawless out of the box, 3 mags to understand the trench, I carry it a lot with a Clip Draw. I put a 3# trigger on it. Condition 1.
I bought one when they 1st came out I could never like the trench. It spend more time in the safe. Then being carried or shot. When I bought mine I was packing a older Defender. I am glad I kept the Defender. The Agent was traded for a AR-15 I just paid the sales tax . This about a month before they went price crazy. I will say this My Agent never had 1st problem. I just couldn't like the sight . I hear all time about small 1911 being trouble Well I have 2 officers and they are great pistols. My Defender has never had 1st bit of trouble and I had none with the Agent. As far as I am concerned Colt has any problems with smaller than a Commander worked out.
I have that gun in 9mm, love it, but putting it up for sale on here soon.
I own two >> one in 9mm and one in .45 ACP. I carry and shoot the 9mm on a regular basis. I love it as my EDC. The .45 ACP is NIB and in my safe. It took some time, but I love the trench sight configuration for a CCW. It has worked out well for me.
Bought one a year ago. After 500 rds ,zero FTF it is one of my CC pieces.

Hayes - this sentence is confusing but I'll answer your questions.

I have a New Agent .45, have had it for a few years; sights? Don't need no stinking sights - at the range it took a couple of rounds to figure out how to (a) point and shoot (at a proper close-in 5 yards or less) and (b) how to use the sighting system.

Here's what I said back when I posted my first range visit with it (in August of 2008; I didn't realize I've had it that long):

The most gratifying gun was the New Agent. Sights? Don't need no stinking sights; here's my target; 15 rounds from 7 yards. The gun shot a little low to point of aim; I was trying for dead center of the bulleye. Someone (a range officer from work) commented on the group - trying to be cute. The Old Range Officer (in his late 70s) told him - "So which round wouldn't you want to be hit by?"
I don't carry the New Agent as often as I could; several years ago I sent a Combat Commander .45 to a smith for an overhaul and that is my usual go to off-duty carry gun...among others.
