I often use Proofhouse.com when I want to look up the year of manufacture of an old Colt. It is a good source, but I did find one item that seemed to be off. However, I could not contact them to inquire. The website lists no contact information; no information at all about who they are or where the data comes from. Does anyone out there know?

Their data is based on Larry Wilson's research in Colt's archives when he was writing his book. I think their dates are usually OK, but I have found some errors in M1917 production dates, M1909 production dates, and New Service revolver production in the near-WWI era. There may be other errors, but those are the ones I know about.

Their data on Browning .25, .32 and .380 caliber pistols is also pretty flaky. The Hi-Power data is good.
