I could afford wider window sills if I quit acquiring these things... then I wouldn't need wider window sills .

you made a good point with the sun. basically all the other windows in my house have things in front of them making photo taking a hassle. So to get the sunshine for good photos, all the picture taking has to be done in the morning. The windows on the front side, where the sun is in the afternoon, don't get the sunshine because of the porch roof, and the sunshine, that natural light is one thing that makes these photos taken in "Hopalong Format" .. window sill photos so good.
