Questions about reassembling the Woodman come up frequently here, so I am starting this thread to point to the two most common problems: recoil spring out of position, and sear spring out of position.

The upper end of the sear spring must be resting on the sear (not under it) and the hammer strut must not be under the sear spring. Correct positioning shown above.


NOTCH FOR SEAR SPRING TAB


Post-WWII type Woodsmans (2nd and 3rd Series) have a tab at the lower end of the sear spring that fits into a notch in the grip frame area (notch shown above). The sear spring for the pre-WWII Woodsman is part of an assembly with the magazine release, so it does not have the the tab at the lower end.
