I need to find some magazines for my newly inherited Woodsmen. The mag release is at the bottom and to the rear of the grip. There is a slot on the right side of the inside of the grip.

Can someone plese tell me what kind of magazine to buy for this gun? sn is 1503xx

See <title>Colt Woodsman magazine identification, compatibility, interchangeability

Either A or B would work. They are pre-WWII and the only ones with the slot on the right hand side. The post-WWII magazines, choices C, D, E, and F, have the slot on the left hand side. The original for your gun would be an all blue version of choice B, rather than two toned like the example photo.

Original pre-WWII Woodsman magazines are scarce and expensive, generally $100 and up. The Triple K aftermarket mags are much cheaper, but worthless because they are highly unreliable. An original Colt magazine will have Colt markings on the base plate. Some early High Standard magazines will fit and function reliably in prewar Woodsmans.

Thanks for the info. I have looked everywhere I know to find a compatible magazine or 2. I tried on the WTB forum but I don't have the required 15 post.

Any help in finding a magazine or 2 would be greatly appreciated. I am not a collector and this gun although rarely if ever fired, was let out in a leather holster in a bax in a garage for 15+ years after my father passed away. SO a magazine that works and is reliable, is what I am seeking. If I have to go the expensive route, that will be my second choice. But it is what it is.

Let me know if you have any leads.

John
