Offered for sale is a Colt 1911a1 pistol made in August or September 1942. It was delivered to Springfield Armory. The pistol shows a WB inspection mark in a box, indicating inspection under the authority of Waldemer Broberg. The slide number under the firing pin shield does not match but is period correct, dating to early 1943. The finish on slide and frame matches nicely and shows a strong temper line. Bore is nice and bright. The barrel is marked HS for High Standard and grips are reinforced on the reverse. If I had to guess, I'd say that this was a DCM release from the late 1950's or early 1960's. Regardless, it is much nicer than the current Army releases.

In response to several questions, the slide serial number is 901055.
