Speaking of ‘73s, I have a thirty plus year old picture around here somewhere of me and you at a cowboy shoot. We are both holding your rifles. A Leaman engraved ”Henry” and a factory engraved Uberti 1873 rifle. I think Dixie sold those ‘73s and the engraving didn’t look etched but hand done. It was a great looking rifle, and I recall thinking your Henry was some of Frank’s best work.
Hey Wyatt, yes I seem to remember that! IMHO that Henry is some of his best work! That Henry is #67 (tried to get #66) that was done in 1964-65 by Navy Arms Co. for the 100th anniversary of the Civil War. It is 100 % American made one of 500 made to shoot 44-40 WCF, I believe there were 500 also made in .44 Henry Flat! They were all manufactured in Ridgefield New Jersey, off some of the original Henry equipment! It also has all the Henry patent dates, along with having the solid steel barrel like originals instead of the sleeved one like imports! I’m very impressed with your memory!
your also right about the 73 from Dixie!

Dane, the checkering on that rifle is as nice as I’ve ever seen on a modern made old west gun. It looks like the rich deep checkering of old originals.
And Den, I mean Wes Terner, I’m going to look for that picture today with your rifles. You let me shoot the Henry in one match stage at Chabot cowboy shoot and one shot of one of your Hickok navies you were wearing in that picture. I think I recall the Railroad Flat guy who bought those. I think he lived there, anyway.
Boy Howdy Wyatt, good memories! Yeh that rifle of Cozmo(Dane) is one of the nicest modern made ones this old man has seen! Also your memory re: those “Hickok” Navies went to a custom long rifle maker in a trade! Took over a year court action to get the rifle which I turned around and traded for a 76 45-60 Winchester! I had a very bad taste regarding dealing with this matter! Unfortunately he was a friend of Frank’s also and that made it worst! One of the nicest 76s I had seen lettered 1885 with original tang sight!
PS those engraved/Ivory griped Navies ended up in a hock shop somewhere in the valley?
sorry for getting off thread!

Hey guys. I was wonder about sights on these guns. The half round barrels in particular. I like the buckhorn rear and will keep it. Not tang sights in my future. But not a big fan of the tall Marbles style front. I have a few different style Winchester front sights. And I like to set my rifles up with the rear sight flat, elevator in its lowest position. I'm looking for a dead on point of aim/point of impact with the front sight gold bead buried in the Buckhorn's tiny bottom notch @ 25 yards. Then use each elevator notch for longer ranges.

Anyone have any feed back to offer before I shoot it or start knocking the front sight off the barrel? Anyone have their original front sight handy that they could measure the size of the dovetail for me? Thanks much for the help.

I really like this rifle.

My other Winchester Miroku had the cams fitted too tight at the factory and needed to be relieved. The lever springs and cams were pretty rough as well and got some attention along with lightening the safety spring. But the short stoke sure is nice on these guns, as have been the triggers on both of mine. They are really nice. Big upside on this rifle is the only thing I think it needs is to lighten the safety spring and even that I could live with easy enough. Kinda amazing when I compare how much work I have done on every '73 (toggle ling guns in general) that I own. Really nice rifles here I think and a bargain for the money spent.

Sights comments/beta anyone?
Sorry I’m not much help on front sights, always used “Rocky Mt” Winchester style! And yes that wood on both the Rodeo and 73 are really nice!
