I am so surprised to read this. I installed the Elliason sight with no problems at all.
As far as I can tell the Wilson installs the same way as the Elliason.

At any rate, glad you got your new Python.
Move here to PA. and you won't have to wait 2 weeks to get your guns.

With the Elliason rear sight and Deer Hollow grips installed:

BTW the Elliason was a huge pain in the ass to install. I installed the roll pin first, but then the toothed adjustment screw fought with the detent and refused to go in straight whenever I tried to line it up with the threaded hole in the frame. Then after trying it by installing the screw first the hole for the roll pin refused to line up! When I installed the Wilson sight on my stainless Python it went in without argument. The sight notch is deeper on the Wilson as well, so if I ever buy another new Python I'll probably stick with that.
Great looking Python!
Your experience with the Elliason sight surprises me. I've installed 4 on my guns and they've all gone smootly and very fast.

I had a similar experience with 5 of the Wilson Combat sights, only exception was mounting one on the KC22. I did get it to fit with minor fitting work, but then decided I still wasn't happy with it. I swapped it for an Elliason that mounted easily on the KC22, then put that Wilson Combat sight on my 6" Matte Python, which also went smoothly.

Pretty sure your troubles with the Elliason will turn out to be an anomaly, as was probably my experience with the Wilson Combat and the KC22.

It's possible I simply ran into a tolerance stacking issue. The OEM rear sight was surprisingly snug on this one, not wobbly at all, so the Elliason may have been a little too tight. I almost stripped the screw trying to get it to thread in, and at one point had to take the sight off again and chase the threads. Oh well... at least the damn thing's on now.

I recently got one of the blued 4.25" Pythons from our forum friend Dan at DHC Arms. I installed some original Python grips and an Elliason rear sight. I did have a little more trouble installing the Elliason than the Wilson sight on my stainless Python, but nothing major. I think it was mainly because I didn't have the gun in a vice, and my hand coordination is just not what it used to be. Now I just need to get to the range and get it sighted in. :)

P.S. - I'll have to say that the stock Colt rear sight on this one was solid as a rock. No play in the sight blade whatsoever. I just don't like that tiny set screw they use for windage adjustment.

6” 1979 python on top
it’s got to be outside or in some good photo booth type lighting to see any difference in the two finishes to me. Sun is down and indoor overhead lights just make glare.
the deep glossy black is there and present on the new gun as well. For this price point they met, I say well done, Colt.

looking at these photos, where do you see the 30% more steel behind the rear sight?
Colt says it's tougher right there..

I had no guess that the barrel vent thing would be the most Talked about thing with the 4” blued gun. I have the 4” KC Target 22 , which is apparently the first of this 3 vent, and it was never mentioned in any of my pics or posts. . I guess because there isn’t an exact previous model to compare it to.
it seems to be such a big deal online between Fake book and forums that i wonder if Colt will explain the design change. Until then, it’s like asking parents why… “because I said so .. that’s why ! “ and everybody stays in an uproar. :)
That's the part I don't get. Colt and other gun companies are always looking for ways to reduce production costs. So why do this when nobody was asking for it?
it’s the Golden Rule the guy with the Gold makes the Rules. Nuff said.
