I just aquired a very nice 1972 6" blued Python. Can I safely fire .38 +p ammunition in it without any problems.

Thanks,

Dave

since they were designed for 357 magnum, +p's are no issue. Actually the original thought was to have them made for 38 special as a high end target revolver but since the 357 mag. was all the rage they decided to make them for 357 mag as they were certaintly stout enough for that cartridge as well.

I don't think my range would have a problem with the load but I have read that some indoor ranges don't allow them anymore. The indoor range I use is very good and the people that run it are very professional and I haven't heard about anyone having a proplem there using them.

Interesting. If there are ranges that don't allow .38 special +p, then they probably don't allow 9mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP, etc. There is nothing different about a .38 +p round that would make it off limits at a range that allows your standard pistol calibers. Anyway, I don't mean to hijack your thread. Good luck with your Python!

You will be just fine with +ps. I shoot .357s in mine and save the .38 specials for my .38 specials. Be aware that a steady diet of .38 specials will leave powder residue about .135" back from where the .357 will, and might impede easy loading of .357s if you don't clean it out real good. It isn't a problem, really, unless you're in some kind of hurry (read: need to reload right now!), and are out of .38 specials all of a sudden-like in an extreme 'social' situation. Heck. Overspeculation on my part, eh?.What are the chances, anyway?
