I've been researching Anaconda serial numbers and model numbers for a while.
Here's what I've been able to piece together from the Colt Date of Manufacture database.
The Colt database contains almost no data regarding Anacondas built in 1990 thru 1994. There are a few listed, but not very many. Not one of the First Edition models are listed.
Starting with 1995, the Anaconda serial numbers MM60000 thru MM84870 are pretty stable - all report a manufacture date of 1995. Serial number MM01047 is also 1995.
Serial numbers MM84970 thru MM86586 jump back and forth from 1995 to 1996 to 1997 - back and forth - no rhyme nor reason - it's just a mess.
At serial number MM86600, the database numbers again stabilize thru serial number MM93644, showing a manufacture date of 1996.
1997 serial numbers are MM93645 → MM99085.
1998 serial numbers are MM99086 → MM99999, and then the new AN serial number set begins. 1998 serial numbers are AN01001 → AN05442. Serial numbers MM01004, MM01006, MM01007, MM01010, MM01027 and MM01044 were also 1998.
1999 serial numbers are AN05443 → AN10496.
2000 serial numbers are AN10497 → AN11741.
2001 serial numbers are AN11743 → AN11952, also MM01031.
2002 serial numbers are AN11953 → AN12455
2003 serial numbers are AN12456 → AN13000.
I don't know if Colt is planning to add the 1990 thru 1994 serial numbers or not. Until then it would seem that we must rely on anecdotal serial number data.
If you would like to help generate a useful Date of Birth database for the Anaconda, here's what you can do.
If you have a Colt Letter for your Anaconda (or have verbal year of manufacture confirmation from Colt Customer Service) please PM me with your serial number and model number.
If you don't know your gun's model number, see chart below.
