Yes. I have shooters and those I just admire. To me it's not the size of the collection but the quality of the guns. I am as much of a gun nut as my budget will allow. I don't have a 40k MP5 but I want one.

I think the connotation of "nut" is firmly established now, and probably deservedly so, because of all the mass shootings in this country, which were unheard of years ago! I hold the NRA responsible for a lot of this, with their unreasonable 2nd Amendment stance and positioning, when with a little 'flexibility', I think much of the anti-gun sentiment and bad legislation could have been avoided! We went for many, many years, with very few anti-gun laws being passed, but it is human nature to "resist" what they are told they cannot do, and the million dollar a year salaried "fools" at the NRA, has wasted millions of dollars of member's dues in lining the pockets of political lobbyists over such mundane and unnecessary defense of people's "rights"... to walk around with a AR-15 type rifle slung over their shoulder, (and probably wearing Camouflage at the same time)! I always said... WHO THE HELL NEEDS 'EM? In years of hunting big game in Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, etc. I NEVER saw ONE person hunting Elk, Deer, Bear, Antelope, Moose, or Caribou, etc.. with this type of firearm!

Other than the noticeable fact that a large percentage of these "Gun Nuts" (perpetrators of mass shootings), seem to prefer this type of firearm, I also never heard a hunter say, "Gee, if only I had a thirty round magazine in my Model 70 Winchester or my Remington 700 bolt action rifle, maybe I'd have got that ELK! :p I know that there will be some who will think that I approve of gun laws that are anti 2nd Amendment, but anyone who knows me, knows that this is not the case, but sometimes it's necessary to give up a little, in order to retain our freedom in other areas! We had a longtime "Ban" on so-called "assault" rifles at one time, perhaps we need one once again?
Here we go . . . another thread on the way to being closed. Some folks never learn.

I guess you're right. I laugh myself silly every time the news report of "an arsenal" consisting of two AR-15s, one Glock, a couple of 1911s and a few boxes of ammo. I probably have around 150 guns in my collection... I mean "arsenal", and the media would have a heyday with that if it wasn't for the fact that I live in TN. Where it's considered a bare minimum. ;)
About twenty-five years ago here in the People's Republic there were proposals to enact an "Arsenal Tax" or create a limit on how many firearms one can own. It went nowhere at the time but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar doesn't happen again. We have a moderate Republican governor with a majority Democrat legislature. While the governor hasn't hurt us he hasn't done anything to help, either. If a Democrat replaces him after the election there will be no limits on what draconian laws might be passed. The Democrat nominee and those in the State House are virulently anti-gun.

^^^^^^Is this really necessary?
Rhetorical question.
It is not.

I am speechless.

Closed? Really? I don't think the administrator of this website is that narrow minded, that he would not allow someone to express their opinion...

It would appear however, that you don't adhere to the FIRST AMENDMENT, in that you are not very tolerant of someone who does not necessarily agree with you! Kinda says where you're coming from! Suggest you read my post over a little more carefully, and you should realize I said nothing derogatory concerning gun ownership, only about my opinion of certain guns, and their appealing to (apparently) certain types of people. I am a lifelong gun owner and gun enthusiast, but every time I think of Sandy Hook/ Newtown, Connecticut, I want to throw up!

You are missing the point.

Let us also remember, that the member “noinca” is on record as saying he believes the military will protect his rights. Really!?! They will be the ones tasked with separating Americans from the very firearms noinca believes “no one needs”.

With all due respect, there are pleanty of (other) places to express your anti-NRA opinion. We've heard it here adnauseum, you should let others enjoy it. If you think giving up some of your rights will protect the remainder then you're not a gun nut.... just a nut.

I too, must count myself as someone who dislikes the term "gun nut". It may have started out as a term of endearment, but it's anything but that now.

That being said, I do like guns. I like reading about them, talking about them, looking at them, collecting them, and shooting them. I prefer 1911s, but I like all kinds of guns (except those in garish neon/pastel colors and those with all the "tacticool" accessories - I like things plain and simple).

I R a gunnut. I grew up around guns.....Winchesters & Colt SAA's.....Thompson's, Browning, Garands.....the list goes on....now with NO $$$$$...!

Can't recall ever making a statement to the effect that I believe "the military will protect my rights", (but taken out of context, I suppose anything is possible!) Since you are "quoting me", could you also please provide a link to the thread in which I made this statement for my verification? Since you have difficulty with just the spelling of my name, perhaps you have me confused with someone else...?

I did not know that. That explains things somewhat.
I should reserve any comment........ but, I guess I won't.
So, here goes.
Folks need to be a student of history before they can be taken seriously with such pure, unadulterated, misguided ignorance.
I understand my (and all of yours, for that matter) Constitutional Rights as delineated (NOT granted, but understood to be inalienable) by the Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America, documented in the Bill of Rights.
It is not, and never was, rocket science. It is an outstanding basis for a free Representative Republic , in my opinion.
I also understand how, why, and by whom these precious documents were argued, fought for, approved, and ratified as the fundamental Law of this Great Republic.
Folks who do not possess this small, simple body of knowledge would behoove themselves to aquatint themselves with the facts.
Until a person can discuss the topic intelligently, whatever it is, they should just sit, watch, listen, read, and learn.
I cannot believe I have to state the obvious on this forum.
It is a little discouraging, actually.
Now, if this thread does not get slammed shut in short order, I will be surprised.

Rant off.
My apologies.

Suggest you read my post over a little more carefully . . .
Suggest you read over this a little more carefully:

Colt Forum is a specialized collector's forum focused mostly on Colt but to also include other brands and collector related topics . We are not a political or "general" forum site . Those topics are available on every other gun forum . Our focus is much narrower and collector oriented .

https://www.coltforum.com/forums/lounge/90670-colt-forum-mission-statement.html

And with that, I will no longer feed the troll.

How does a fun topic thread like this turn into political discourse ...
Are you a Gunut?
I'm seeing the same few names repeatedly involved in closed Lounge threads turned political ... Whether left or right I don't care , my suggestion to these people is to STOP responding in a political manner . If something you read bothers you politically or any other way ,,, report the post and I'll look into it .

Also just to be clear , the staff controls the forum's content limitations including no politics . They are imposed for a reason . *If this is unacceptable to you then it's time to move along .

You can check my post history , I don't threaten ... but I am stating now that if it continues , ban(s) will happen .

Closed .
