I bought the Standard Directory Of Proofmarks by Gerhard Wirnsberger hoping it would provide information to help date guns based on the proof marks. But there is zero info on dating in there. Is there a good reference out there that will help date foreign made guns based on the markings? There doesn't seem to be any online reference which I find sort of surprising.

I use "Gunmarks" by David Byron (Crown Publishers, 1979). I provides some dating, but not a lot.

Might be worthwhile to investigate "Stockel". It was for decades, from 1940s, the proof marks Bible, two volumes, particularly for early pieces, published I think in Denmark. About 1980 an updated version was published & there may be a newer version. I have a reprint of the early one & had the later on that I let get away. I don't recall what the updated version had on American guns but the early one had very little - which was OK with me as I was then mostly into restoration of European pre-percs.
