Recently came across an posting on another site for a set of rare & genuine 1st generation Python grip. Seller wants $450 plus shipping & ins.
Grips look a bit too shiny & the checkering diamonds are not sharp.
Thoughts?

Uhhhh....yeah......Nice wood, but not for that kind of money. The guy woulda been better to leave 'em the way he found 'em and sell 'em to someone with an equally slightly used gently beat up revolver. They would be perfect for something like that, for a lot less $.
Why do people do such things? Do they just not know? Or are they tryin' to break the back of the first sucker who sees 'em and likes 'em?

If they are genuine Colt stocks then someone sprayed them with some high gloss coating...not how they would have left Hartford. It would take some effort to strip them back to the original finish.

This is a case of the orange not being worth the squeeze.

Here’s a pic of the back. Again, it looks like a re-varnish as you can discern the over spray so to speak....

The original grips had a dull oil finish and not a bright gloss finish.
They could be restored by stripping the finish and refreshing the checkering.

Unless you just have to have a set, I'd pass at that price, but note that prices on the First Issue actual Python grips are going up and up fast.
