Just got my newest Colt (new to me), while I own double action semi auto pistols (Sig Sauer, Browning BDA 45), I really like the Double Eagle:

It is no Sig or Browning BDA ( kills me to say , but I’m a realist ) .
That said , it’s one of my favorites ( 2 LW Officers , 10 govt & 40 commander)
If I had a 9 , or even 38 - my son would be EDC
He has my WG 220 and a 228
Second handgun I ever bought was an ordered Officers ACP, third was the 220.
If anyone is looking for a new gun - I’d definitely buy inspector Callahan’s in the WTS.
Don’t think you could do much better overall for a DA pistol ( especially NIB & price ).

But yeah , nice score on your four five !

I think the DE's problems were twofold...it wasn't aesthetically pleasing and Colt was very late to the market with a modern DA/SA pistol...the market was already pretty well saturated with them. Colt wasn't a big player in the market they once dominated...they made a few SAA revolvers, 1911 platform pistols and DA revolvers that weren't cost effective anymore by the early '90s. The Model 2000 was an attempt at a modern polymer 9mm pistol...a good basic design polluted by unnecessary engineering changes and bad introduction with out of spec barrels on initial guns (sounds familiar).

Kind of a shame...the Double Eagle wasn't a bad pistol...just too late to the game and Colt's management was losing interest in the game...just riding on the Colt name at the time.

Several years back, one of my shooting pals had one and he had no problems with it in several hundred rounds fired from it. Can't recall in many years seeing one for sale in a gunshop or pawn shop. Still pretty hard to find today. I bet it is a beast and a hoot to shoot. Thanks for showing. Enjoy it in good health.

Great point Scott ..... also people just think they’re ugly ( their words ).
I’m sure mostly from die hard model O lovers.
I think they are great looking , probably the only brushed/ matte stainless model I like .
In blue - even way better. But equally important to me is the function, controls and operation .
Sorry , to me - manual safety on a DA pistol just doesn’t seem needed.

You may want to remove the left side grip panel and check to see if the forward part of the decocking lever spring is properly seated in the decocking lever, or if it has popped out of the little hole that it hooks into. Your decocking lever looks to be sitting a little low. It is not uncommon for this to happen. In my experience, when this happens the decocking lever does continue to function; but the lever sits lower down in the direction of the mag release. Your lever position is not far off, so it may be fine, but you might want to check it.
