Have had passed down to me this Colt officers mod .22 long rifle. 6" barrel, Ser # 6679 made in 1931. Used but not abused, about 60 - 70% finish. Original grips, serial numbered each one. How much is this gun worth now? Would having it reblued hurt or help the value.

I would estimate it's worth about $350-$400. I would not have it re-blued as it will probably not add to its value. But it will certainly look a lot nicer if you intend to keep it and shoot it. A re-blued revolver is a negative in terms of selling even if Colt does the work.

You can expect to value to be reduced by about the cost of a refinish. That means you will spend a couple hundred to reduce reduce the value a couple hundred, for a total "loss" of about $400.I urge you to keep the original finish. The gun will shoot fine as is, and honest wear is not a disgrace, but rather a badge of service.

Keep her original and shoot her with joy. As long as you maintain this fine weapon it will only appreciate in value. I learned a hard lesson some time ago by viewing a Model 06 marked Winchester (not to be confused with the 1906 marked) slide action and it looks fabulous. Estate sale and everyone around loved this "carney rifle". I wanted it, period. Bidding war but I got her. Feed tube front bracket needed reseating in the dovetail. THEN, uh oh, I noticed (my eyes taint all that good in glaring sunlight) that the rifle had been professionally reblued and the barrel redman relined. Collectible, No; Great shooter and good looking, Yes. My grandchildren will enjoy it and "maybe" it'll be worth the $700 I gave for it in a few years.
