Remington Rand slide. 3 digit serial number. FJA inspector mark. Can anyone tell me about this firearm and its value. I'm not familiar with 1911's.

Thanks, Mark

3 digit serial number means Remington Rand "Demonstration Pistol" and were assembled for "in house use" only. Most were presented to company officials, key employees, and other military and civilian personnel associated with the pistol program. There was a total of approximately 150 assembled. I don't have any estimates on value, but I would guess BIG BUCKS. Congrats on finding one!!!

Previously know 3 digit serial numbers include #127, 128, 130, 131, 135, 136, 140, and 144.

That looks like something very special, with what I can see of it.
Looks promising enough that I'd go online and look up some heavy hitting collectors and start making contact,
Start doing some research on Remington Rand demo pistols.
Did it come with a kraft box? The box and pistol together would be an incredible package and many of those demo pistols are still with the box, as it left the factory. It should look like this:

If you pursue the sale, make sure if there is a box, that it is included with the pistol. The inclusion of an authentic box would raise the value significantly, along with any other paperwork or magazines that came with the gun.

I see an ordnance wheel... uh, maybe I don't. Can't tell from the pics. But it certainly looks like there is no 'P' behind the trigger on the left side. No rebuild initials. All other slide and frame markings seem present and accounted for.

Not an ERRS pistol as described in the link above.

Temper lines visible on the slide.

My take on the serial is NO 18XX, so it is four digits and not three. Still, very unusual.

Head scratcher. NICE looking gun.

The numerals don't appear to be the same as the ones being used by Remington when the underline o in No was being used in the serial number. The Remington numbers had a flat top 1, where the pistol shown has a slanted top 1.

Also has the FJA acceptance mark, but no ordnance mark?

We were all sort of hoping you would know!!!

It does look very much like this Ithaca.

Remington Rand slide, Ithaca frame, questionable at best (totally fake at worst) serial number in a range never produced by Ithaca. The one in that serial number not used by Ithaca or Remington Rand. Very close examination of that serial number area may show remnants of a previous serial number. That pistol may be an attempt at faking a Remington Rand demonstration pistol. Caution should be used with that one.

I have never seen a "Demonstration Pistol " that I have known to come from a reliable source so I have always Been Skeptical. Not saying it didn't happen because not everyone encounters everything. I know of the ERRS guns as I owned the set of #61 (Colt Exp61, Ithaca Exp61, US&S Exp61 and Rem ERRS61). We Had aquired them from the son of a former Colt VP. I thought these were what was referred to as the Demonstration Pistols But I guess I was wrong.
