Hi Guys,

I have recently purchased a Colt Detective Special with the serial number C23173,
which in accordance to this list is a 1972 production. It is a Detective special with a covered
ejector rod, which I believe was build from 1973 on wards.

The gun is in Germany and was imported by company akah.

Can someone eventually clarify that matter?

Kind Regards from Germany

Olaf

Only $93...US Dollars !?

You STOLE it Olaf !!

Most "Snubbies" are either carried a lot for self defense...or sit in a drawer for home protection...but most don't see much range time.

Congrats on a very fine specimen !!

{ I'm aware of the gun laws in Germany...the Wife and I have been to your beautiful country quite a few times.

We fly into Ramstein Air Base...then go to neighboring Landstuhl to use the train system to tour your land }

I follow this model very closely. From my observations the "C" prefix serial number commonly issued beginning in the year 1972 almost without exception 3rd gen. Combat grips, shrouded ejector rod, ramp-notch-serrated sights. Occasionally i have seen the previous "B" prefix serial number in the the third gen. configuration or attributed to the year 1972 (early in the year i assume). Most every "B" Prefix you'll see is a second gen. model. I tend to wonder when i see a "B" 3rd Gen Colt DS if the gun was ordered custom or possibly reworked after the gun was delivered in 2nd gen. configuration, possibly to an owner who had buyers remorse when they saw the new & improved Cold DS during the year 1972. I own serial number C10276 (the 276th example of a "C" prefix) among several other "C" serial number DS's, and i do not recall a second gen. either as a "C " or later. I never paid attention to Jim Rockford side arm as a pimple popping teenager but i will go back and take a look to admire Jimmy's good taste, like my own LEO father who also carried a 1972 "C" serial number Colt DS.

I have a number of Detective Specials and only the ones with the covered shroud like yours. I love them and carry one frequently. They can handle +P loads but probably should keep it to a minimum. I have loved these Colts since I was a kid and watched Jim Rockford in Rockford Files use his D.S. that he kept in his cookie jar!
