Does anyone know how well built the EMF Great Western II 1873 revolvers are made? I heard they are made by Pietta.

I am far from an expert but mine seems very good. Especially when you take price into account. The timing is perfect and finish is very good. I believe other than a coil spring for the hand it is pretty much an exact copy of a second gen colt. It has a removable cylinder bushing and 4 click action. It shots pretty much to point of aim also.

I have a Gambler's Royale which is basically a prettied-up GWII. Yes, it works very well and solid. One of the best-timed Italian revolvers I have. EMF is just down the street from me in Santa Ana, CA. Their gunsmith is super nice. He installed for free a stiffer main spring because I felt the Wolf spring was too light. I kept the wire trigger spring however.

For the money, there is no current ly better Italian copy of the Colt SAA than a Pietta 1873 no matter who imports them.

They are dimensionally correct unlike Uburti.

The chemical cyanide color case coloring is hit or miss on beauty, but thats the same case in all copys not actually case hardened with bone and charcoal.

If cast frame doesn't concern you its s great buy.

The trigger pulls are heavy and somewhat gritty but easily fixed or left as is to wear in.

I recently purchased a new frontier 5.5 in 45C and couldn't be more pleased for $420.

  • Casting is the process in which metal is heated in a furnace until molten. While in the liquid state, the metal is poured in a die, or mold, to create a component shape.
  • Forging is the process in which thermal and mechanical energy is applied to ingots to cause the alloy to change shape while in a solid state. colt
he called it casting but it is Drop Forged they say.

I like my Piette Colt .45 Buntline revolver. It lived in a holster for a 7 1/2" revolver for two years. Now I received a holster I ordered for the Buntline model about a week ago and it's a perfect fit. I had to give a little more for a lefthand holster than I wanted but no matter it looks good. I've found that I have to ware the gun/holster on the right side in cross draw fashion in order to clear leather drawing the Buntline.
