I was looking through The Paterson Colt Book by R L Wilson, and I found on page 141 this picture of a Paterson No 5 Ser No 377. In the picture, on the top revolver, you will see an extra hole/screw in addition to the usual trigger and hammer screws. The only other differences between the two guns on the page is the different length barrels, round back/straight back cylinders and different wedges

I've gone through the whole book and cannot find any other examples of this screw on any other Paterson in the book and in all my research I've never see another one like this that is an authenticated original.

What do you all think the extra screw is for? Is this a reproduction despite its provenance?

ALSS,

Very good, I'm impressed! Not only is there an extra hole, when you compare the curvature of the inside of the grip, the curvature at the top of the grip, the flow of the curvature of the underside of the frame, especially the indentations at the lower front of it, and the curvature of the base of the barrel under the wedge and as it progresses forward, so called number "377" is clearly different than several other examples pictured in the book. I would have to conclude that it is a well executed reproduction or fake. Even experts can be fooled sometimes.

Good job. Okay, now your task is to take your Paterson and compare it to known examples in this book and look at the curvatures and angles as I define above, as well as others you might identify, and note how yours clearly differs from known examples in this book, other than "377" (or maybe you might want to identify similarities within "377" as compared to yours). You will quickly come to the conclusion that yours is a reproduction or fake as well.

I'm not trying to knock you, but if you can clearly identify a probable fake and bring it to the attention of others, you have keen qualitative senses and an attention to detail. Why, then, are you unable to use these same skills and quickly conclude that, unfortunately, your Paterson cannot be genuine?

Merry Christmas!

So you have no problem with ridiculing people with physical disabilities, but you dislike being stereotyped for your place of residence.
Nice.
